DIY | Chevron T-Shirt Throw Pillow

Hello everyone! Long time no see! I took a MUCH NEEDED break for the Holidays but I am finally back! The break felt good but I definitely missed posting. And for my first post back I'm doing another throw pillow that goes with the last urban outfitters DIY throw pillow! ( Check that out HERE ) I needed another pillow that went with it but wasn't exactly the same so I stuck in the same color family and made this super cheap and super easy throw pillow out of a T-shirt! Hope you enjoy! Happy DIY-ing!

Step 1: Items Needed

T-shirt of your color choice - L or XL is best

Yarn of your color choice

Needle & Thread

Scissors

Pen

Paper - either card stock or construction paper

Ruler

18x18 inch pillow insert

Step 2 : Making the Chevron Stencil

To create the chevron stencil I cut out a rectangle. make sure its not wonky or uneven or else thats how your chevron shapes will turn out.

You will then cut the rectangle from one corner to the opposite, creating a diagonal cut.

Then you will just flip the separate pieces so the outer edges are now in the center creating this shape.

Move them together and tape! Thats your stencil to create the chevron pattern!

Step 3 : Making the Chevron Face

To make the chevron face you will start by needing each of your chevron pieces. I gave a lot of extra space around the stencil to leave room for sewing it all together.

Once you cut them out they will look like this!

Then pair 2 of the cut out shapes together and stitch one edge together.

Once that edge is stitched together it should look like this.

When it comes time to stitch all the chevron pieces together on all sides.

Once you have 3 rows 8 in each row you're done with the face of the pillow!!

Step 4 : Creating the pillow cover

With a chunk of the same T-shirt draw out an 18x18 inch square.

Then cut it out!

When it comes to sewing the square backing to the face center it on the chevron face as best you can! Place the pretty side that you will want to see in the way I placed mine in the picture above.

When stitching the cover make sure to leave an opening so you can flip it to the correct side and insert the pillow insert into the cover.

Your finished cover should look something like this once you flip all the stitched edges to the inside.

Then stuff your insert into the cover!

Step 5 : Braided Trim

To find the length of string I needed I measured one side and multiplied it by 5.

Then just braid and braid till you can braid no more!

Once your braid is done stitch it to the edge of your cover and tah dah!!!

Your Throw is finished! Now go cuddle up on the couch :)

Liking what you see? ;)
